The Golden Shadow by Phoenix Song

Psychiatrist Carl Jung called our submerged creative potential or greatness the "Golden Shadow." You can discover your golden shadow in your intense admiration of other people. The bright qualities that you look up to in others represent the disowned aspects of your unique potential. When I was younger, I always admired singers, but I was the kid mouthing in the back of the play, musical, and chorus. In my twenties, I lived in India for 3 years and studied tabla (drumming). After years of intense training, I got really sick. I lay in a hospital in Varanasi with poison spreading through my body from the bite of a mosquito as dengue fever gripped my joints and split my head, sweat pouring out of every pore, left for dead, brought back to life by the kindness of strangers who donated their blood. As I contemplated my mortality, internally hemorrhaging, unable to move my fingers, unable to drum, a holy presence whispered in my ear, sing. So I began to sing at age 29, my voice lifted to the rafters, an angel amongst all my demons. I started out in a punk band and now specialize in world fusion and channeling medicine songs.

What qualities that you admire deeply in others do you want to embody? What new stories do you want to write about your life? Have you always wanted to sing, to free your voice, to speak, sound, and sing your truth? Now's the time! Embody that golden shadow you so admire in others. Let your singer out! I have been helping people free their voices since 2011 in private and group classes. I believe we can all sing, just not many of us have practice playing our body instruments. Surprise and delight in your voice at one of these upcoming community offerings at Green Yogi Telegraph.
